I Went to the Prom

And just as I was about to post, the #$%&@ cat stepped on the power strip, shutting down the computer, and causing me to lose all of the nights events.
So you get no details. Just a couple of pictures. Maybe you'll prefer it that way. No whining and jabbering. Just a few mindless facts.
I will tell you this: this good little mormon girl (ahem) never so much as kissed any of her 3 prom dates. Okay, I totally would have made out with Steve P. after Senior Ball if he hadn't gotten drunk. So it was fun to well, let's just say the kids stayed at aunt Sandy's for the night.

Girl Talk

We made it. The project was turned in. The luncheon went well. All the major catastrophies dealt with. My house looks like a bomb went off, but we made it.
I got home late from work (and by late I mean 4pm). I was exhausted and in a funk.
Considering David's cold and Isaac's allergies, I convinced David to not go on the Father-Son-Campout. Off they went to see Shrek, a little annoyed that I wasn't going.
I ended up (after watching Pretty in Pink) spending the evening with a bunch of women in the ward, half I didn't know beyond their first name, the other half I met tonight. We played some board games (one was Apples to Apples, which I hate), snacked, and got to know each other, partly with the help of Truth or Dare Jenga, and, like all women together for the first or second time, shared our labor and delivery stories.
What is it about gathering together as women that is so uplifting? Is it the surge of estrogen? Is it a built-in sisterhood?
Whatever it is, the magic worked, and I'm ready to move on.
PS Unfortunately as women we can also have the opposite effect when we're gathered as a group, but that's another can of catfight.

The Finale

I'm exhausted. I should leave 45 minutes early for work so that I can properly prepare for the luncheon. I've got 1,000 things to do.
But what about Grey's?
I expected to be left with cliffhangers. I expected plot twists. But they got me. Sort of.
I knew chief would stay. I knew we'd be left to wonder about relationships like Derek and Meredith, and especially the Izzy-George-Callie triangle.
But Christina's (I LOVE Christina) reaction to Preston leaving floored me. We thought she was in love. We thought she had one or two emotions. We thought that she wasn't robotic. We were wrong.
Does it say anything about me and my own personality that I like Christina so much?
Hopefully no. I like her, but don't relate to her.
And now I'm rambling.
PS The whole Lexi Grey thing is quite annoying.

It's Done

Maddie's final 4th grade project, due tomorrow and rivals any project I had in high school, is done.
It's been a hard week, and this project (that we started back in April) nearly pushed me over the edge.
I've been busy, zig-zagging between work, home, the orthodontist, scouts, back to the orthodontist, baseball practice, to Aunt Sandy's house (to tie the quilt, see above pic), and back home, last night well after Maddie and Isaac's bedtime.
Things are hectic at school, too. Throw a field trip in with all the other end-of-year-winding-downs, mix that up with students who apparently took a bunch of naughty pills, not to mention that the two teachers I work with are both up to their elbows in their thesis' (what's the plural of thesis?), and you've got a full plate. Speaking of plates, I'm putting on a luncheon for 27 people tomorrow, because the week hasn't been stressful enough.
David is finally home. When he left Saturday he was healthy, but now that he's home he has a raging cold and is exhausted from the grueling week. But he's home.
Who am I to complain? JP has been at work 10, 12, and 14 hours a day this week. I only put in 6 hours at work before my motherhood marathon.
Before I could scurry off to the orthodontist (third time this week) and then the library to finish off Maddie's project today, I had to rush Isaac to the doctor. My poor little man was in allergy distress when I got home from work, and had even helped himself to Benadryl before I got there (we have since discussed that that's not okay). How in the world the pediatrician still had an appointment when I called at 3:00 this afternoon, I'll never know, but I'll consider it a miracle.
Of course, once you have an unexpected trip to the pediatrician, along comes the unexpected trip to the pharmacy.
We survived. And we made it to the library. Back at home we glued and gathered and printed and sewed and it's done.
The quilt project is done.
And when I announced it's official completion to Maddie, I cried. Then she held me.

Any One? Any One? Beuler?

I am obviously over the hill, and this new realization cements it. Am I the only one that thinks Mitt Romney is kinda hot?

Happy Mother's Day!

Let's have a laugh at my expense. Really. You're all invited.
I woke up alone. David is out of town and doesn't know when he'll be back.
I also woke up sore, but I knew I would after kneeling to plant flowers yesterday.
Needless to say, I woke up two states away from my own mom. Fine, the blame is mine, I chose to live in Utah.
The kids did cuddle up with me in bed, all of us awake before seven. I, of course, was awake at 4:30, 5:00 and finally sometime after six.
In all my glamour I changed the litter box and for kicks, missed the bag and dumped some on the floor.
Just after that, while shaving my legs in the shower (dodging cat scratches) I found an ugly bruise (some bruises are more cool than ugly) on the back of my leg where some kid took a full swing and got me across the back of both legs with a bat at practice the other night.
I expect that soon room service will deliver my bacon and sausage and eggs and hashbrowns and biscuits, fat and calorie free of course. Or in 4 minutes the oven will spew a fresh batch of granola, not fat or calorie free.
The kids have given me their school-made Mother's Day gifts, and in return I let them eat frosting-free cupcakes left over from last night for breakfast. No worries, they chased it with a banana. And just in case Isaac hasn't ingested enough sugar, he's just poured himself a bowl of Lucky Charms.
Sometime between now and 11am when church starts, I need to make serious progress on Maddie's quilt project due Friday. We have 2 rows done. Two. Due Friday. Pray for my patience.
I hope you have a warm and wonderful Mother's Day.
A bonus laugh for my own mom...

Too Tired to Title This Post

I'm tired and I'm whiny. And I have lots on my mind. I'm considering staying in bed all day tomorrow.
I'm having one of those Where-Do-I-Begin? moments.
Yesterday was Isaac's 8th birthday.
I can almost guarantee that I will be in the emergency room by week's end. Isaac got a skateboard. It's either going to break his arm or knock out his teeth. I'm getting a vibe.

I see a T-shirt at school on a student that says something like "I've seen it on TV, I think I can do it". We need to find it and buy it for Isaac. He thinks he already knows how to do everything Tony Hawk can do, and is going to try it and is going to bleed.

I was much happier with the gift he picked out for himself with the money he got from his Grammie and Bampa.

Puss in Boots won't cause stitches. I think.

In other news, after Little League's opening day was canceled last Saturday because of the weather (yes, weather), Isaac had his first game today. Isaac, but not Maddie. Her game was canceled because a pipe broke and flooded the field. Lame.

But Isaac's game was good and the team played well.

This has not been my year for birthdays. I'm just not in to it.

But I pulled together a little party for the man tonight. Not much, just some kids from the ward/neighborhood (one in the same, it is Utah), pizza, cupcakes, and waterballoons.

Not the Harry Potter party from last year, but good enough.

Aside from the birthday and baseball goings ons, I put around 50 annuals in the ground today, but still have about 30 more to do. I'm going to have soreness in the buttocks from all the bending and squatting.

Regardless of where you are heading, everyone has to drive by my house after entering my subdivision. So I felt a little self concious today standing outside, butt in the air, bending over to dig in the dirt and plant my little baby flowers. Lovely.

My Apologies

This time to my husband.
The REASON he DVR'd Antiques Roadshow wasn't so much because he's eccentric, but because the episode took place in Utah. Apparently they featured a Pearl of Great Price, first edition.
I should have known.

Pardon Paris?

I will be very disappointed if the governator gives her a Get Out of Jail Free card.

Am I 32 or 72?

Why in the hell did someone in my household DVR Antiques Roadshow?!
And why?

Poor Little Spoiled Girl

Through the years David has brought home lots of different "goodies". At whatever conference or convention, freebies would make their way into his suitcase. Often I had zero interest, as it was automotive related. But sometimes a cute key chain or some sort of gadget would win me over. I love it when he brings home duffle bags.
Last weekend David went to some convention in Las Vegas that (I think) honored women in business. I was invited to go with him, but there was just no way I could swing it; there's no one to leave the kids with, and we're short handed at work. Since we're on the subject of Vegas, why would a convention honoring women be held there? Surely men planned it. Needless to say, I had a slight uneasines about the choice city. Totally (of course) with out reason.
David eyed the gift bag long before they were handed out, and even talked to me about it on the phone. In fact, there were so many goodies that it filled two bags. Keep in mind the theme of the conference: women. These gifts were for women.
Jump to David arriving home from his 3-day trip. Was I happier to see him or the gift bags?
Devestation. David only made it back with one bag, and had forgotten the other in his hotel room. The forgotten bag supposedly contained (gasp!) (gulp) (sigh) Clinique samples.
I think I died a little bit.
Sure the bag that did make it home had some fun stuff, a bunch of Loreal products, like Telescopic Mascara. Whatever.
Did I take it like a grown up? No! I raked my poor husband across the coals (and back again). I begged him to call the hotel and have them ship it to me. He refused. Could another co-worker who rode in the car with him have mistakenly grabbed it? I'll never know.
Excuse me while I grieve.
PS Maybe I'll take him up on his desparate offer to go and buy me some Clinique. I can't believe that I'm admitting this, but I'm well stocked up. The real charm, though, was that the other was free.

They Picked the Wrong Idol

It was Chris' time to go. But Phil?! The voters really screwed it up this time.

Bon Jovi Idol

How did tonight sneak up on me? Probably because I was running around for back-to-back Little League practices for Maddie & Isaac. American Idol was in the back of my mind, but I was ever so greatful (again) for a little invention called DVR.
Boy was I in for a surprise.
I was so wrapped up in my week that the news of Jon Bon Jovi appearing on tonight's American Idol escaped me.
It was (by far) my favorite episode of this season. I have been quite bored with many of the contestants; they're just not as exciting as last year's performers.
But tonight was awesome. I need to send out emergency text messages to everyone in the Pacific Time Zone so they will be sure to tune in when 8pm rolls around (which is only 20 minutes from now).
Phil - awesome. He's always been at the top of my list.
Jordin - didn't do well, but I love her any way. And she looked hot.
Lakisha - I'm not a fan, but she was great.
Blake - the "risk" of the night, freaking awesome.
Malinda - liked it very much, so Tina Turner-ish.
Chris - I have to say, I was a little bored.
It was an awesome Idol night. I loved it. But then came the realization that tomorrow we lose not one, but two contestants. Ooh! Who will go?
Lakisha & Chris. But don't forget that tonight's votes are combined with the ones from last week. So, it's literally anyones' game.
