Maddie-isms and Isaac-isms

Maddie
On Friday afternoon, Maddie and I vegged on the couch for a bit, trying to catch our second wind. We flipped through a few channels and then stopped by Ellen, who was hosting her Mother’s Day Baby Shower. There was a panel of mothers and their (grown) pregnant daughters set up Newlywed-Game-style for a question and answer game. (if you live under a rock: one person is asked a question and tries to match answers to their previously-questioned partner, whose answer is written down on a card.)

Jessica Alba and her mom were on the panel, the others chosen from the audience. Jessica’s question was “what was the most embarrassing thing you caught your mom doing?”

She answered that she caught her parents doing ‘it’.

Well. Miss Maddie is catching on to the birds and the bees and ‘doing it’. Ellen proceeded to make a big deal about how icky is was for Jessica to catch her parents doing it.

When the time came for Jessica’s mom to flip her card, revealing her matching answer, it read “making Whoopi”.

Maddie turned to me and said “is her sister’s name Whoopi?”

Isaac

Friday night I watched (more) TV, and it wasn’t quite as family friendly as I expected. I had to explain to Isaac and his friend, Devon, what a lesbian is. We had already had the conversation explaining what gay is, but I guess we hadn’t included all of the terminology.

Last night at dinner Isaac blurts out that his friend’s dad is a lesbian.

David snickered.

I said “um, no he’s not”.

“Yes he is! He has a whole bunch of wives.”

“He’s a polygamist.”

Trust me, living in Utah, we had that conversation months ago. Apparently he forgot.
